Open water
and Rip Fishing
When we are
not looking for stripers in skinny water we are usually plying the waters
off Provincetown or Chatham for open water stripers and blues. These
fish generally move in big schools eating sandeels and other forms of prey.
They can be found on top to down deep. We have caught them on floating
to fast sink lines. Light tackle spinning rods are very effective for
these fish and you can expect explosive hits from these fish when taken on
poppers and lead headed plastics.
When tuna are
around they can be found mixed in with these schools. Come late June
we always carry a few tuna rods onboard just in case!

For the fly fisherman, squid flies, large
herring flies like *buffies*, large flatwings etc are what I like to use.
Early am is best before the wire line fleet arrives!!
