Species we fish for

Striped Bass inhabit our waters from mid May thru October. The fish that arrive here first are school fish in the three to five pound range with catches of twenty fish per four hour trip not uncommon. Larger Bass from ten to thirty pounds and up arrive in mid June and hang around until October. A seven-weight rod works well for the early school fish and a nine-weight rod will handle all but the largest fish. At times you may may have to go to a ten-weight rod when the fish are in the deeper waters offshore. Intermediate lines are preferred with a quality reel holding 200 of yards backing sinking lines are needed in deeper waters. Sight casting to Stripers on the flats of  Cape Cod Bay and other areas can produce trophy catches for the accomplished angler.

Bluefish roam the entire East Coast from Florida to the Gulf of Maine. During the summer months they take up residence in the waters surrounding the Cape. Fish from 4 pound juveniles to tackle breaking 20 ponders are available. It is possible to encounter schools of Blues numbering in the thousands willing to take anything that you throw at them. Cape Cod Bay is the place to be for really large Blues.

Bluefin tuna arrive in our waters in mid June and are easily accessible to the small boat angler. Juvenile Tuna 30-75lbs hang out off Chatham, Cape Cod Bay and Nauset Inlet giving an angler shots at a really spectacular fish. Rods in the 12-15wt sizes are needed along with reels capable of at least 500 yards of 30-50lb. gel-spun backing. It is possible to see schools of juvenile fish pushing bait less than a = mile off the beach.  This fishery is becoming one fo the most sought after trips during the late season with Aug/Sept being the prime months.

False Albacore enter our waters in mid July and are most acessable in Nantucket Sound from Chatham to Marthas Vineyard. They stick around until mid October. The Albies are not as large as their brothers found off the coast of the Carolinas but never less they offer drag-screaming runs. The average fish is in the 5-7 pound range, with an occasional fish in the teens

Atlantic Bonito are one of the most sought after fish of the Tuna family on Cape Cod for the inshore fisherman. The Bonita will show up shortly before the Albies and as the water temperature rises they will leave for deeper water. As the water cools at the end of October they will return for a few weeks before heading South. Most of the Bonita caught here are in the 6-10 pound class.
